Watercolour and applied material on paper

Fires are often devastating events, and images of bushfires in particular reflect the violence and destructive power of flames searing the landscape. But there is frequently a point, when the flames have died down and the smoke begins to lift, when, in the silence and amongst the ash and remnant trees, there is a patina of delicate hues quite at odds with the ferocity of the flames themselves. This is the moment I have sought to capture in "Fireground", isolating those hues and tones on the stillness of the white paper to reflect on a very different aspect of something that is an ever-present danger and something we should all respect.
