Lion of Judah

Najaah McLaren

Acrylic on canvas

I would like to use my art piece “Lion of Judah” as a means by which to bring awareness to the current endangerment of lions in Africa. Sadly the lion population across Africa has faced significant decline in their numbers in the last century. Lions are listed as vulnerable according to the Union for the Conservation of Nature. The lion has become extinct in 26 countries in Africa and therefore have been labelled as critically endangered in certain parts of Africa. Contributing factors to their decline in numbers have been loss of habitat, illegal wildlife trade and various diseases. In selecting this particular work for exhibition at the ArtGeo cultural complex, I hope to further spotlight their plight, as well as to encourage appreciation for these truly exquisite and magnificent animals.
