MEMOIR OF PICNICS SHARED

Lesley Meaney

acrylic on board

This painting has been on and off a North West, South West and back garden easel for decades. Finally it is finished. Many memories played a role in this painting - my passion for lingering and loitering in the bush or desert: of being shown ‘bush tucker’ by indigenous artists I once taught in the Pilbara: of long-past informal lessons whilst picnicking on a faded blue gingham cloth with my children: of finding witchetty grubs and tasting them: of observing patterns on the skins of reptiles and of various birds, swooping to share a bush picnic.
