Cabin

Jarrad Martyn

Oil on canvas

The recent focus of my practice has been exploring how we are engaging with the natural environment. Cabin depicts myself in the studio, which is consuming or possibly becoming consumed by the wider wilderness. The work encourages the questioning of what the conceptual function of painting is and what it can offer to the wider environmental conversation. Auguste Rodin’s sculpture The Thinker (1904) stares down at the situation unfolding alluding to how our understanding of being human must change in order to continue as a species.
