Drying Out

Encaustic Wax and Shellac

ARTWORK STATEMENT : “DRYING OUT” (80 x80 cm) Medium: Encaustic Wax and Shellac Unexpected climate events can have a devastating effect on the landscape, and the change in natural colours from a prolonged dry period in wetlands give rise to a sharp contrast to the effervescence of a wet season. This painting uses encaustic wax with ochres as pigments to reflect this return to the underlying, natural colours of the earth as a landscape dries out. The addition of shellac identifies the last vestiges of life before that too returns to the earth. Colin Pratt 2020
